Bill Maher's Response to ODS and the Politicization of Everything

I found this on Facebook today so I thought I'd share it here. When I heard that Michelle Obama had made a surprise appearance (via satellite) during the recent Oscar telecast, I knew some on the right would go on the attack. Sadly, some people have to make damn near everything political.

Well, since I don't even care to watch the Oscars, I could careless if Michelle was there or not.

Too boring.

Leticia: I think you mean you couldn't care less. To say you could care less implies you do care at least a bit. :-)

Nope.

I avoid the Oscars, the Grammy's or any award ceremonies with celebrities.

Just a huge waste of my time.

:)

I understand that you don't care. What I was trying to point out is that the correct term is "couldn't care less". :-)

I would let it go if I were you, there's no winning there

She doesn't get me bent out of shape, beyond that one gaffe of hers.

But it should be pointed out that if she runs for VP the next time, that she has even less qualifications and experience than Sarah Palin did.

Curious: It's not a matter of winning. I think Leticia gets what I am trying to say.

dmarks: I doubt Michelle Obama winds up as the VP on the 2016 ticket. Although she has never held public office, I do think she has the capacity to learn what's necessary and could be ready for 2016. Sadly, Sarah Palin never demonstrated any type of intellectual curiosity once she came on the national scene.

Malcolm: If the Obama's want my advice (as if!) on getting Michelle into the Presidency, Barack should appoint her to a Cabinet post ASAP. That will give her some meaningful experience, which she can use to help with a successful Senate run.

Nepotism? Well, anyone who objects to that needs to be reminded that any such appointment will be screened by the Senate, and one of the greatest Attorney(s) General(s) of all time was appointed by his own brother.

If Congress decides to be lazy again and not act on the appointment recommendation in a reasonable brief time, they are shirking their duties of "advise and consent", and the President would be justified in making a recess appointment.

Now, Malcolm, tell me if you disagreed with any of these points and musings...

"Sadly, Sarah Palin never demonstrated any type of intellectual curiosity once she came on the national scene."

Now, this I strongly disagree with. As I have seen such insults leveled usually at individuals who happen to not share someone else's partisan views. Personally, while I think Palin has good ideas (which would have decreased unemployment instead of increase it as Obama has done). I don't she has the guts for high office. The going got tough in Alaska, and she ran away from her job and her commitment to it.

dmarks: Your strategy for getting Michelle policy experience makes sense. However, I think it's neither here nor there because I doubt Michelle will be selected. Since she hasn't publicly announced any intention of seeking the VP job, any speculation is premature.

As for Sarah, my comments about what she's done (or hasn't done) since coming on the national scene have nothing to do with her political viewpoint. In your eyes, is it possible for a liberal to legitimately criticize someone on the other side?

Despite me and countless others believing she's unfit for high office, I think the 2012 GOP presidential nomination was hers if she wanted it. President Obama would have dusted her and it would have been fun to watch, but that's beside the point. If Sarah did what was necessary to prepare her for the job of POTUS, it was a well kept secret. You even admitted she ran away from her job as governor. Here is a brief breakdown of what she's done in her public life post 2008:

* Made lots of money writing books, giving speeches and starring in her own reality show

* Served up red meat for her base by trashing President Obama at every turn. This includes childish comments about President Obama needing to grow a "big stick" and tired teleprompter cracks.

* Vigorously avoided media outlets which would ask her any tough questions. Even within the friendly confines of Fox, she embarrassed herself:

As I've said previously, Sarah Palin is basically the conservative version of the Chatty Cathy doll. Pull her string and she spouts right-wing talking points.
