Colin Powell Discusses the Problems of the GOP

On the January 13th edition of Meet the Press, David Gregory questioned Colin Powell on whether or not he's still a Republican. Along with saying he still is, Powell also outlined why he thinks the GOP has lost it's way. Among the reasons Powell discussed were Romney surrogate John Sununu referring to President Obama as “lazy” and Sarah Palin accusing the president of shucking and jiving in regards to the Sept. 11 2012 attack against a U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya. You can watch the segment below:

Colin Powell could have gone on, but don't fault him. After all, he only had approx. 30 minutes. Sadly, Powell seems to be the exception instead of the rule when it comes to prominent Republicans. The far right will likely dismiss his comments, label him a RINO, etc. However, unless the GOP wants to continue losing national elections, they'll listen to him. There are solid reasons why Mitt Romney lost to President Obama and no it's not the fault of the so-called mainstream media or any other BS excuse conservatives have used. The GOP is in trouble, but it can be fixed. So in the words of the Captain (played by Strother Martin) in the movie Cool Hand Luke, my message to the GOP is simple: "It's all up to you".

That's exactly what they did. I've read a couple of conservative blogs, and they've condemned Gen. Powell for speaking the truth.

They insist on living in a fantasy world, and they truly believe the country is behind them in their policies.

That's why they've been so gobsmacked by President Obama's re-election.

It's called cognitive dissonance.

Real world correction: they condemned Powell for expressing an opinion that they disagreed with. An opinion which is ridiculous in places, such as Powell saying there is any problem with calling a President 'lazy'.

I like most people appreciate a good rant and lively discussion, but why is it that most of you progressives always have to rant about race as seen in that lunatic's comment in your previous post.
Must you folks always play that STUPID race card?
Can't you ever get over the slavery of 200 years ago.
Your people were NOT the only people that were slaves you know, yet you blacks are the only ones who are still bitching and moaning about it. It's time that Spike Lee, and Harry Belefonte, and Morgen Freemen and Danny Glover, and Barack Obama put a lid on their big stupid mouths. .

Amooch: We do have a Bill of Rights here, and though we may disagree with them, all 5 individuals you mentioned have full rights of free speech and the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.

Sorry you seem to think that because someone's ancestors might have been slaves, these someones don't have the rights that the rest of us have.

If you don't like what they say, ignore them. The problem will then be entirely solved. I have found it easy myself to entirely ignore, for example, the films of Spike Lee, unless I happen to choose to watch them. There's no one forcing me to go to them.

By the way, Amooch, who is this Mr Bubble that is your boyfriend? I did find a picture of him. I can only figure you two have a lot of good clean fun.

Shaw: Right-wingers can be so predictable. I knew they would counter Powell's criticism by listing the names of minority GOP politicians. They missed the whole point. Powell didn't say the Republican party as a whole is racist. He accurately pointed out that there are people within the party who have issues when it comes to minorities. Until Republicans start doing a better job of calling out people within their party for making intolerant remarks, their share of the electorate will continue to shrink.

dmarks: Powell didn't say there was anything wrong with calling a President lazy. However, when you use that term in reference to the first African-American president w/o any evidence, it's going to raise eyebrows. Since John Sununu isn't in the president's inner circle, how could he possibly know that laziness was the reason for his lackluster performance in the first debate?

Since you said Powell's opinions were ridiculous in places, with which parts of what he said do you agree?

AMMB: Why is is that when anyone brings up race in a manner in which you disagree, righties like you hurl the "race card" accusation? As for why the so-called lunatic in my previous post said what he did, why don't you ask him.

By the way, I was disappointed to see you don't have any posts on your page yet. I was looking forward to seeing what you had to say.
