Lawrence O'Donnell Pulls the Wheels Off the Romney Bandwagon

Leading up to the 2012 presidential election, I had planned on doing some gloating if President Obama won. Some would argue I should be bigger than that and it's a fair point. However, after all the shit President Obama has taken from the right over the last 4 years, they deserve to have their noses rubbed in it! On his show last Friday, Lawrence O'Donnell put together an awesome montage of the various conservative pundits  who predicted a Romney victory. Some of them were right in one regard: they predicted 300+ electoral votes for the winner. They just picked the wrong candidate. Just to recap, here is a tally of the electoral votes for each candidate:

President Barack Obama- 332
Mitt Romney- 206

Don't worry conservatives/Republicans. Just turn back the clock to the night after the first debate when you were all smug and self-satisfied because of Romney's "victory". Like I said back then, a poor performance in the first debate by President Obama would likely be irrelevant. If the conservative media's colossal failure in predicting the 2012 presidential election doesn't make it's followers pissed, it should.

Here is the Lawrence O'Donnell clip I mentioned earlier. Liberals/progressives/Democrats, enjoy!

I knew Obama had won it in the week or so before the election when Gingrich and others were predicting a Romney victory coming from vast pockets of uncounted un-polled voters who would come out of nowhere to vote for Romney.

I've seen this happen before in other slections. No, nothing ever deviates from pre-election polls in such a fashion.

It's okay, Malcolm, you can gloat. No biggie. But I can still gripe. :)

Malcolm, that video is proof of how insular the conservative world of punditry is. I knew Mr. Obama would win because I followed Nate Silver's mathematically based predictions. He's uses, you know, science. And he was right.

Conservatives don't live in reality. And when it hits them on the head like a ton of bricks, they wallow in anger and confusion, and then double down on their bigotry and hatred. Just see the comment by DB. He blames Obama's win on African Americans voting for Obama? So long as people like him continue to believe that rubbish, the GOP will continue to be an irrelevant political party.

BTW, Only FOUR president in recent history have won the presidency by a majority of the popular vote: FDR, Eisenhower, Reagan and President Obama.

Good for him.

dmarks: You are one of the few conservatives who weren't drinking the Romney Kool-Aid. If you didn't, you should have spread the word to some of your blog buddies. Then, maybe they wouldn't have been so shell shocked by the outcome. :-)

Leticia: As long as your gripes are legit (even if I disagree), it's all good.

Shaw: I plan on writing a post next outlining how the conservative media has let its followers down. I don't see how anyone can watch the Lawrence O'Donnell montage and argue in favor of the conservative media's analysis leading up to the election. One of my former co-workers (more on them later) leans heavily to the right and predicted a Romney landslide. When I asked why they thought this, they said all the polls beared this out! When this person came to work after the election, you would have thought their dog had died or something.

Along with the nonsense spewed by DB above, another right-wing lie is that Obama won because his supporters want "stuff". Let the righties keep up the stupidity, insults and denial. There's a reason that out of the last 6 presidential elections, the GOP candidate won the popular vote only once!

By the way, here's a postcript on my former co-worker. The reason they are a former co-worker is because they were fired for saying and writing inflammatory language after the election. The F.B.I. even paid them a little visit. Here is some of what this person said and wrote at work:

1. Anyone who votes for President Obama is guilty of treason and deserves to be hanged until they are dead.

2. This person accused Obama voters of firing the first volley in a so-called 2nd Revolutionary War. They wrote in their workspace that a 2nd revolution is coming and that there will be no prisoners, no mercy, no remorse, etc.

3. Casually mentioned the number of guns and the thousands of rounds of ammo they purchased and their plans to join a militia.

I sat less than 5 ft away from this person!

Malcolm,

Holy Jayzus! I remember when Bush won in 2004, how disappointed and despondent I was--as were thousands of others. But I don't recall any threats of violence. Ever.

The extremists of the rightwing are out of their minds.

We see it over and over, again and again. Ignorance, fear, hate and anger + Right Wing koolade = very sour grapes and delusions.

The Guardians Of Plutocracy could never abandon their equation. That would be "change", right?

Malcolm said...

Shaw: Scary shit ain't it! In addition to no threats of violence, there also weren't any calls for secession. It seems like some conservatives only love this country when a Republican is in the White House.

Leticia: Thanks and a happy belated Thanksgiving to you too!

Dave: The post I plan on writing this week will discuss how that very equation is killing the Republican brand.

Hello. You said you sent me an email, Malcolm. I looked in my inbox and the only reference I could find to your name was me telling Heathen Republican you were one of the good bloggers, and a reference to Malcolm X somewhere.

And a comment on this statement, Malcolm:

" It seems like some conservatives only love this country when a Republican is in the White House. "

If so, they would only be mirroring Michelle Obama's terrible gaffe about being proud of her country only when her husband was a candidate.

They'd just be following the First Lady's example after all.

Hi dmarks,

I noticed you deleted the comments you posted on my Rachel Maddow post. Is it because the link you included was to a story about the Canadian government? Just curious.

Later,

Your comparison of some conservatives to Michelle Obama is false equivalency. First of all, she said "Let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country, because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback." This is not the same as how you termed it (her only being proud of her country when her husband was a candidate). Also, did you ever hear her talk of secession? That's what I mean by some conservatives who seem to only love their country when a Republican is in the White House.

What a bunch of bullshit. The ones who always have to say "im not a racist" usually are. They feel the need to say "there's plenty of white people I wouldn't want to be around too" Yeh well you all hold hands & sing chumm byahh. I Live in North Idaho because I want/prefer to be around my own kind of people. White people. I don't give a rats ass if that labels me a racist. Its a free country & I have a right to live where I want and around who I want. At least I have the balls to say it.
Unfuckingreal - I have a white supremest calling me a racist. I didn't realize that those folks allowed liberals in their little clubs. I mean, liberals have been calling me a racist since the Obamessiah took office so I'm assuming he must be a liberal too. He sure knows all the little buzzwords.
Sorry, motherfucker - I stand by my words. You want to spout your white supremest bullshit, leave me and my friends out of it. We're taking a stand against oppressive government, not the color of somebody's skin. Have somebody teach you how to read above a 6th grade level (I'm assuming you can't by your punctuation mistakes) and then study what we're about, yeah?
And I could really give a fuck less where and why you choose to live where you do. Seriously

“Don’t Bother Me With Facts!” said...

Just look at the crap the poster above mine wrote! He can't even make a comment without vulgar language, so typical of the old white right-wingers.
And by the way, Bush screwed up the economy! Is your memory that bad, or is it just selective?
What I would like to know is why the Repubs are you supporting John Boehner? Is it because you're so stupid? As usual, Republicans just don't want to hear common sense or logic, all they can do is call the President names, and make up all those vicious lies about him. Its time the free ride for the Rich is over. The ultra-wealthy have had tax breaks, and loop ho;es for years. NO CUTS for the wealthy its time they start paying their dues.
Bush brought us into two unecessary wars that have gone on for 11 years and Obama is getting us out FINALLY, and the righties just can't stand the fact that he is doing it. As well as killing Bin Laden.
The republicans idea of compromise is, give us what we want period. Well, Obama WON, get used to it.

bobabouy: I don't know where all that anger came from, but I hope you seek some help for it.

The Question Man: The next time we have a Republican president, I don't wanna hear the Obama haters crying about him or her being mistreated. The way they've dogged President Obama is a disgrace. However, with the current shape of the GOP, it may be awhile before we see another Republican president.

Anon: Your comment about an impending Civil War in this country is pure nonsense. It sounds like you wanna see one break out.

Malcolm: Michelle O's statement was a terrible gaffe. There's no way to spin it in any good way. It was a big mistake of her to say. Unless she is really so stupid/unaware/self centered to claim that in the 30 or so years of her adult life and the corresponding span of American history, nothing happened at all to make her proud.

"For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country, "

Ugh...

Would you like a list of the positive achievements of the US federal government and of the US as a society in Michelle Obama's adult years, from around 1983 to 2008 (when she uttered her stupid gaffe)?

All the advances like the ADA? The women and blacks appointed to high positions during these years between 1983 and 2008? All the stuff Clinton accomplished? All of it rubbed her the wrong way??? Come on...

--------

As for the deleted comments, I can't understand why you made a big deal about it. I realized I put the wrong link in it. I was in a hurry, so I deleted it. I withdrew it. I could very well have posted it with similar links about the increasing handouts to rich government employees under Obama, but I didn't get back to it. It is a problem of waste and misplaced priorities that didn't start under Obama, but he has made it a lot worse.

dmarks: Last year, I had planned on doing a post about Michelle Obama's comments in comparison with another prominent figure. I'm going to put it up soon. I'll be interested to see what you have to say.

As for the deleted comments, I never made a big deal about them. I asked you what happened, you explained, end of story. You're the one who can't let it go.
