Happy Holidays From Diversity Ink!
Before 2010 turns into 2011, I wanted to say Happy Holidays to everyone from the gang at Diversity Ink. In keeping with the time of year and one of the topics addressed at Diversity Ink, below is a holiday commercial by Lexus that features an interracial couple. The commercial caught my eye because it's another example of the advertising world starting to reflect the fact that interracial relationships in the U.S. are on the rise. The fact that some racist pigs on the Internet find this commercial sickening is an added bonus.
Have yourselves a safe and joyous holiday season!

and a beautiful couple they are! you should give us links to those racists so we can have a word with them..
Merry Christmas and a wonderful prosperous New Year to you and yours Malcolm!
Sue: Here is the link you requested:

In my search, I found the following Sears ad:

Apparently, it got pulled after several white nationalists complained. If they get all up in arms over a black man pecking a white woman on the cheek, the fact that Seal and Heidi Klum are married must drive them crazy!
My beautiful white son married a beautiful black woman this year! 100 years from now, the general population is going to be a light brown with beautiful big brown eyes!
thanks, heres one of the lameass comments...
Another reason not to buy Toyota, in addition to the fact that it is a Jap company. You gotta love how they do it so casually, like it's just "normal" now.
Ha!
Reminds me of the remark from my racist friend, she said "have ya noticed since the election of Obama how all the commercials have black actors?"
People are so ignorant!
I have a beautiful black sister-in-law and nieces, just thought I would add that after reading Lindas comment. BTW, she is pregnant again and they are hoping for a boy! :-)
gosh, I remember back in the 80s when I was dating a black man...no one said anything negative to me, but one girl would come in on Mondays and tell me how many interracial couples she'd seen over the weekend.
Linda: Congratulations to your son and new daughter-in-law!
Sue: I recall reading that idiotic comment. I wish someone would say to me "have ya noticed since the election of Obama how all the commercials have black actors?"... that statement isn't even close to being true. By the way, congrats to your brother and sister-in-law as well!
Janet: When I've been in interracial relationships, no one ever confronted me about it. I think most people who have negative feelings about interracial relationships hold their tongues because they realize they would be letting the racist cat out of the bag if they said something.
By the way, where were you living when you were dating the black man back in the 80s? I think you told me awhile back that you were outside the U.S. at the time, but I forget.
I wish I could see this commercial, but it is not working. I heard about a Lexus commercial that was seen as offensive because of its IR couple. The person speaking said the woman was obviously much older than the man, and that is was disgusting to see them together. The only difference is, this was on a radio show for Black nationalists.
You know what though, I have to admit, seeing IR couples on TV kind of rubs me the wrong way sometimes. Simply because it seems like the dominant theme nowadays is to pair up successful Black men or women with whites. If Black on Black love was equally represented in the media (in truth most Black people date other Black people, so why are almost all of the Black people on TV in IR relationships) then maybe it would not bother me quite as much. Now, mind you, I am obviously not totally opposed to IR relationships, since I participate in them, but I think that constantly showing IR couples as the norm negates the power of Black on Black love.
Joanna: It's good to see you back again! I embedded another code so you should be able to see the commercial now. I'm not sure what commercial the person who said the woman was much older than the man was viewing because I doubt if it was this one. The couple appear to be about the same age. One could even argue that she is younger than he is. By the way, do you have the info for the radio station that was discussing this? I'd like to see if they have podcasts and also check out what other topics they cover.
You bring up an interesting point about interracial relationships on TV today. Although I would like to see more black couples on TV, I don't want it to take away from the representation of interracial relationships either.
In a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, there was an article about the cancellation of the TV series "Undercovers" starring Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The writer speculated that the failure of the show may have been partly due to the fact that the two leads were black. I think some TV producers are reluctant to portray more black on black relationships between prominent characters out of fear. If TV producers are worried about getting low ratings because of a black on black relationship, all they need to do is remember shows such as "The Cosby Show", "A Different World", and "My Wife and Kids" just to name a few. Given the success Showtime had with "Soul Food", I wish that the broadcast networks would take a chance on a drama featuring black couples. Of course, I probably have a better chance of seeing Elvis than that happening.
Malcolm.... the show was the COWS radio show. If you check out the episode on Oct 19 you will hear me speaking. They have a lot of really good guests on there, and I agree with most of what they say (aside from the fact that I do believe there are a FEW non racist white folks, and they do not believe there are any!)
